Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.When I fell in love with my wife, I became a student of what she likes and I talked about her often. That is exactly what this passage is saying.Moses then warned Israel that once they entered the Promised Land, they were to “be careful that you do not forget the Lord, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.”What the Ten Commandments point us toward is this: Put God first in everything.Now that is a nice phrase and a warm thought that comforts many against the cold dark nights of this life. But you have to ask yourself if it is really true in your life.Audit your calendar and your checkbook, and ask if traces of “Put God first” can be found there.A book on relationships has a very enlightening title, “He’s Just Not That Into You.” If a woman is constantly frustrated in her relationship with a guy, it could be that he’s just not into her even though she may be totally into him.Do you put God first or are you just not that into him? If you make excuses for not attending church, not reading the word, not tithing, not doing this andthat which goes along with loving God with all you have, maybe you need to just admit you’re just not that into God.If you would rate your active love of God on a scale from one to 10 somewhere in the middle, you maybe deceiving yourself into thinking God loves the way the relationship is.Revelation 3:15-16 tells us what God thinks of the middle ground: It is lukewarm, and he won’t swallow that kind of talk.The Ten Commandments would never have been allowed to be removed from the walls of a courtroom anywhere in the United States if those who call themselves Christians were really into God. I’m not suggesting that there would have been a stronger outcry.No. I’m saying that if Christians lived their lives pointing to God by their love for him, it would never have come to the minds of a court to remove them in the first place.
