Alot has beensaid about the Ten Robert FrommCommandments since Chief Justice Roy Moore of Alabama refused a higher court’s order to remove the Ten Commandments from his court room and was suspended for his refusal tocomply.It is easy for us in such controversies to get distracted and miss the real meaning. When trying to teach a dog to go in the direction you are pointing, the dog’s instinct is to watch the moving finger. The dog can see it moving, but that movement hasn’t yet become a symbol which means “go in that direction over there.”This is the same kind of problem people have when it comes to the Ten Commandments and many things in life. We get stuck looking at the finger instead of what it points us toward. People argue over whether the commandments are applicable to people in the New Testament. The Jews begin their version with, “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.” Who is your God, really?In Deuteronomy 6:5, Moses commanded Israel to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” When you think about it, that doesn’t leave anything for us without him. What it is pointing is to be always focused upon lovingthe Lord.Moses went on to say, “These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts,” and this is what you are to do with them.Turn to MESSAGE ID2
