Coach Henry Ransom's Texas AM golf team is expected to challenge strongly for the championship of the SWC tournament this week at Arlington's Great Southwest Golf Club Thursday and Friday. The four Aggie players are Tom Johnson, Steve Veriato, Tommy Shelton and Tommy Gilbert. Johnson and Veriato will be mates in the two-ball phase while Shelton and Gilbert will form the other team. Competition also will be based on the aggregate score of all four and on best-ball of the four, thus having three divisions of play simultaneously. All teams are allowed a practice round Wednesday. Tournament play will be for 54 on best balf of the four, thus having three divisions of play simultaneously. All teams are allowed a practice round Wednesday. Tournament play will be for 54 holes, 36 on Thursday and the final 18 Friday. Veriato is the SWC's defending individual champion but he won't put his title on the line until next spring when the individual championship meet is played on a stroke play basis. This week’s action will be on match play basis.
