Adair, Who Im About to Marry the Much-Talked-About Duke.Boston, Mass., Oct. 12.—While the duke of Marlborough, io spite of his unenviable reputation as a beuedict, has been causing uutold flutterings in the heart* of Newport and Lenox society belles during the lust seusou, and unscrupulous mammas with marriageable daughters to be rid of have been setting anid daughters* caps for the titled Englishman, it now appears that he was engaged all the time The Oxford Chronicle and Berks Gazette, a newspaper published within a mile or two of the dukers home in England, was tho llrst to announce the engagement in its issue of September^?.The woman who is to succeed to the place of Lord Frauces Anne, not to mention others, is Cornelia Wadsworth Ritchie Adair, an American, though, on account of her last marriage, at present among the landed gentry of Ireland. Miss Wadsworth, daughter of Gen. Wadsworth cf Geneseo, N. Y., married a Col. Montgomery Ritchie, U. S. A., of New York, a grandson of Harrison Gray Otis of this city. After a few years of wedded life Col. Ritchie died, and Mrs. Ritchie went abroad, where, in 1867, she married John George Aduir Esq. of Rath-daire, Queens county, Ireland. She is a brilliant woman of great personal beauty and one of the most daring cross-country riders in Ireland. Mrs. Adair has held a high position in tho society of her adopted country, and, as not tho case with so ruauy of her country womeu who have married foreigners, she has continued a close connection with her friends in Arne.lea. The Adairs of Rath-dnire are not a very old family, trucing back only to the early part of the seventeenth century, but they are among the wealthiest county families.
