YOUNGSTOWN—As he heads into his seventh season at the helm of the Youngstown State University soccer fortunes, head coach George Hunter and his squad have set one goal that they hope will be realized come season end— to have a second straight winning season! Last season, the Penguins posted a 744 mark, the only winning season in the sport’s nine-year history. “We have the nucleus to post a better than .500 mark,” Hunter noted. “We did lose several main cogs in last seasons line-up due to graduation, however, with the experience that our back-ups have had over the past two campaigns, I feel cautiously optimistic as we begin the ‘83 campaign. Seniors expected to lead valuable leadership are Ron Baker (Ashtabula Harbor) and Hassan Makki (Beirut, Lebanon). Four juniors, Mark Hall (Worthington), Mark Jamison (Willoughby South), Tim Worrell (Akron Ellet) and Nick Cindric (Willowick St. Joseph) will be counted upon heavily as well with Hall in goal for the Penguins. Unity through soccer HOWLAND—The five language clubs at Howland High School recently gathered at Howland Park for their first activity of the year. The French, Italian, Latin, German, and Spanish clubs held their second annual soccer game in September. The clubs chose soccer as an activity because it is the one sport that all the represented countries share. During the afternoon, four teams played two separate matches Each club member had the choice of playing the game or just watching the fun.
