Dyamond, of Dawson street, Bairnsdale, holds the distinction of being the first in Tasmania, and probably in the Empire, to volunteer for the present war, as his offer was in the hands of the military authorities on the instant that the cables informed us Belgian neutrality had been violated by the Germans. He also undertook to provide his own horse and equipment.
