u The Cornwall Chronicle. — We can no longer refrain from giving ■ he particulars of the riot which tookplace at Savanna la Mar, on Mont!ay ihe 8th inst. We have stcn a second letter in corroboration of the former, froin the above town, and it goes to state, that information having been received, that in addition to an armed party,consisting of a great number of the rabble of the town, who had assembled at a bouse kept by a person named Deleon, to protect (as he called it) tfic Baptist Preacher there, a number of slaves h»d been brought from the adjacent estate lo co operate with them, and the yard behind the house was filled, as will as the house, with armed men, when they thus put Custos, Magistrates, and all the inhabitants at utter defiance. On hearing this, several young men repaired to the house to ascertain the tact. On coming near the door, they Were assailed by the party domiciled, from the windows, with boiling *alt water, which caused them to fall back to the opposite Piazza, where they received a tremendous fire from the party in Deleon’s house. Five or six of the persons were wounded, one or two d ifigoroutdy. The unarmed party were then compelled to retreat, bearing their wounded companions in their arms. After this bloody affray, the drum beat to arms, and the militia soon came to their posts. Deleon’s party again assailed them, and the militia rushed into the house with charged bayonets, and succeeded in putting several to flight and faking innny prisoners. Kalphe Dolphic was the ringleader in Deleon’s party, and escaped that night. Next morning, affidavits having been filed, warrants were issued for the apprehension of the parties, when John Deleon was taken in his house; and whenbrought upon the s'reet, he would have been cut to pieces by the enraged multitude, five or six hundred in number, had not the Custos and several gentlemen interposed. He was lodged in g£ol Mr. Aaron Deleon surrendered himself to Ihe Custos; the uproar lasted all night. The parson had been sent by Mr. Williams, the Custos, to Anglesea. On Friday the Magistrates sat again, and eight of Deleon’s party were taken. Dolphie gave himself up that evening ; and the pardon had been lodged in gaol in the course of that day. Deleon’s house was pulled down by the populace on Friday night. There are altogether tour houses pulled down belonging lo the party. On Saturday, a number of special constables were, sworn in ; the militia on guard ail erupted to prevent Deleon’s house from being taken down, but to no effect : they were forced to retreat. As the writer was passing from the Court House 011 Thursday, he was attacked by one of Deleon’s party on horseback, who snapped a pistol at him three rimes; he pursued him, and the fellow was taken prisoner. The gaol is filled with prisoners. An alarm of firo was given on Thursday, but it was soon extinguished.The following arq. the names of persons wounded -Mr. William Samuels, In the leg ; Mr. Medley, in the buck ; Mr. Moore, in the eye and neck; Mr. Tomlinson, in the arm ; .Mr. JVPCoy, in the leg ; Mr. James Young, in the eye; Air. Davidson, in the side, with small shot. Two other men had bulls through their iials.On the 10th of August his Majesty’s ship Pearl, CapU Gordon, sailed to Savannah-la.Mar from Port Royal, with two companies of troops. The Missionary will be brought to trial.
