THE BIGGEST earth*moving machine went on the ]ob yesterday cutting the six-lane swath Tor the Nineteenth avenue freeway, a §4,100,(WO job being developed by the L. C. Smith company ol Sau Mateo, The Caterpillar tractor above is one of two such machines on the project, Bigger than these are three Caterpillar scrapers 0-30A which move 30 cubic yards of earth at one time—the equivalent to 74,000 pounds or 37 tons with one shove. These machines cost $711,000 each. The job which begins at the wait end or the project near the future Bameson Heights college site will be built eastward lo El Camlno Beal first and is to be completed by September, 1U62. The rest of the freeway to Delaware street will take an extra six months.
