In the past there has been too much said of what is wrong with Farmington. Of course plenty is wrong with the community ,and there is always room for improvement. But on the other hand any observing citizen must realize that the steady growth of this community right thru the departing period of the depression must have some sound reasons behind it. One of the fundamental reasons why Farmington is making steady progress is that there is located in the com munity one of the best and soundest banking institutions three years has had the reputation of never foreclosing a mortgage as long as the mortgagee has asked to have the loan continued and has shown a disposition to make an effort to at least pay the interest. A bank that has never called a Troan because of lack of funds on hand: “A bank that has had plenty of cash reserves on hand to meet the needs of its patrons in business expansion or for building purposes. The state representative of the Federal Housing Adminis tration this week after a close investigation discovered a healthy building boom in progress in Farmington, with most of the funds being supplied by the First National Bank. Home improvement programs also are in evidence and again the local citizen has not had to go farther on own local bank to get the necessary funds. So one of the things that is right with Farmington is the First National Bank. Another thing that is right with Farmington is the commendable attitude of its older citizens towards the new comer. New residents are welcomed as potential citizens and are given their place in the community just as soon as the opportunity presents. Take for instance a well estab lished custom at chamber of commerce meetings where every new citizen who appears is immediately introduced and in vited to express his ideas and impressions. That spirit is another thing that is right with Farmington. This leads right up to the Farmington chamber of com merce. That institution carries out a program of progress both thru those periods when the going is good and thru the times when the going gets rough. A jast criticism might be that this organization is not wholly representative of the business of the community, and that even not all of the members attend meetings. But a glance at the faces around the table last Tuesday revealed more new business men and interested citizens than usually gathered there. New interest is being taken in community advancement. And as usual new projects for the community are developed at the cham ber of commerce. Last Tuesday the move for a cheese fac tory and an effort to secure a CCC camp for this community were launched. The chamber of commerce is another thing that is right with Farmington. There is a spirit in Farmington that enables the citizens to lay aside all personal, political and other differences when the good of the whole community is concerned. Only very recently the community played host to Governor Tingley. Political differences were laid away and a successful effort was made to give the chief executive a warm welcome. That is certainly something that is right with Farmington. A group of merchants in Farmington have been working away on the theory that the right selections of merchandise priced to compete with outsider dealers will afford local peo ple a reliable market right here at home. Increased local trade, and increased trade by districts in this trade territory atteat these merchants on been right. The stimulation of retail business here is most certainly something that is right with Fa A community ‘spirit that. Scionised the focal public schools shall be the very best that we can afford is bearing fruit in one of the best schools of its size in the state. In creased attendance in the high school as well as capacity attendance in the grades is a direct result of the community spirit. Certainly so far,as schools are concerned, they rep resent something very scriens with Farmington.
