THE EDITOR: Sir.—The promoters of the All Ja maica Industrial Exhibition and Fair have expressed a well deserved appre ciation to Mr. Altamont Dolphy for the use of the race stand and paddocks at the Kingston race course, which helped materially tow.... making the Fair a success. This Fair has demonstrated what can be accomplished by the ordinary peo ple of Jamaica if they can obtain only a little encouragement and help, and, not the least essential to the great suc cess achieved by the Exhibition was the accommodation which the race stand building and the paddock afforded. As one who has taken a keen inter est in the Exhibition, I venture to say that the great success achieved would not have been accomplished but for the accommodation afforded by this build ing, the usefulness of which for such objects has been amply demonstrated. Many suggestions have been made from time to time as to the use to which the Kingston race course might be put, but no one has ever dreamt of its value in this direction. In view of the usefulness demonstrated in the Ex hibition just completed and the possi bilities as to the future, I think I am voicing the sentiments of the commun ity when I suggest that the structure ought to be taken over by the Corpora tion and managed as a municipal asset instead of being left in the hands of a private individual. Just imagine for one moment what a setback it would have been to the enter prising promoters if the proprietor of the race stand had refused permission for its use, or had treated the promot ers with scant consideration as was done by many other influential indi viduals. The whole success of the ven ture which has been a credit and in centive to the small man in the com munity, would have been jeopardised. This structure should belong to the municipality as part and parcel of the race course and the taxpayers in one monotonous voice should continue this refrain until this object has been achieved. I am, etc., “EXHIBITION.” Annetty Bay, October 6, 1932.
