itc-Fiffcy pumpkins, ranging all the way from freaks of a few pounds to giants of over one hundred pounds, were entered in the popular Pumpkin Contest which the Citizens State Bank has conducted during the past summer. That the contest was popular and of much interest is proven by the large number of contestants and the crowd which wus present at the judging which took place Saturday at 10 o’clock. The pumpkins were placed on exhibition on the lawn east of the bank and made a very attractive appearance as it is seldom a person has an opportunity of seeing forty huge pumpkins in a row all at one time. The largest pumpkin weighed 105i pounds and George Eiken-berry, on whose farm it was raised, said that three weeks ago it was only a blossom. The freak pumpkin was entered b.v Marvin Hunt, who had to cut his father’s fence to get it as it had grown around the fence wires.First prize was won b.y L. H. Dice, who entered the pumpkin whose weight multiplied by 100 most nearly represented the a-mount of interest paid by the bank from January 1st to September | 30th, inclusive. The prize winners in orde and the prizes are given below.L. Many have stated their desires to take part in the next contest. However, the educational value of such a contest is of much more benefit than the winning of a prize and for this reason the officers of the bank feel that it is a paying proposition. The fifty pumpkins entered in the contest were sold at auction Saturday evening the proceeds going to the Red Gross for Japanese Relief. The sum of about forty dollars was realized from the sale.inSioly
