Jn the afternoon a reunion of the First brigade, the president’s old command, was held in the opera house. To this it was found imperative to admit only the old veterans and their immediate families, and even then the opera house was almost inadeqate to the occasion. President Harrison was escorted from the hotel to the scene of the reunion by a committee headed by Gen. Daniel Dustin, United States sub-treasurer of Chicago and formerly colonel of the 105th Illinois infantry. The appearance of President Harrison on the stage was the oocasion for an outburst of cheers from the assembled veterans that made the very walls tremble. General Dustin then called the meeting to order. After the applause had somewhat subsided President Harrison addressed the veterans of his brigade. At thfi conclusion of the president’s remarks the applause brought General Dustin to the front and that gentleman spoke briefly,after which the president announced his desire to «hak*eaoh member of his former command by the hand. After adjournment the veterans moved to the itage, one by one, and grasped the president’s hand. The president was then driven to the hotel where he retired to a private room until 6 p. m. ThiB evening the president attended a banquet given by the Phi Delta Theta society at College hall, and later a banquet giveil by the First brigade at the First Christian ohuroh. A oommittee from the Ottumwa, la., corn palace arrived to-day to escort the president there to-morrow.VCIMaA hv A Srln Car.
