The officer was heavily handicapped, hut eye-witnesses assert the belief that he would have nabbed his man nevertheless if he had not lost his footing in climbing the railroad embankment and rolled to the bottom. As it was, by the time the polleeman had ended himself up and got under way again the nimble Sharts had got off.
