Kendrick, regional test ( ngineer of the El Paso Natural Gas Co.. explained recently that the detonation would be entirely underground. He said said that the earth tremors in this area last January were more forceful than can be expected from the nuclear detonation.This project is under the A tomic Energy Commission’s Plowshare program and the El Paso Natural Gas Co. is the sponsor of an experiment to increase natural gas productivity. The detonation area, according to Kendrick, would be about 21 miles southwest of Dulce. This is off the reservation.Mr. Kendrick said that the blast is expected to leave a cavity with a radius of 85 feet. Debris falling back into the cavity v ill form a 300 foot high chim ney, according to him. This will serve as a container for the gas which is expected to flow from Hie fractures which occur 500 feet back into the earth in all directions from the cavity.The detonation area presently has 3.500 square miles of low productivity gas bearing sands. He said something more effective than hydraulic fracturing is needed to open the formations to allow more productivity-According to all reports the Gasbuggy project will not have any affect on the residents and physical plants here. There are still some reports of tremors in this area, although there although there have been no reports of damages
