Fire Destroys Guill Grocery and BakeryAt about 12:45 o’clock Saturday morning, Oct. 4. the Guill Grocery and Bakery waf discovered to be on fire. The Guill family were spending the evening at the M. B. Dahl ranch home southeast of town and no one was present in the building when the fire was first seen by parties further down the street. The alarm was soon sounded ond in a few minutes a crowd assembled, gathered promiscuous fire-fighting material and started the battle with the flames. The building is of wood, one story, about 24x36 feet. The fire halt;j by this time broken through the roof of the building and the interior of the living rooms at the rear of the store was a mass of fire. The chemical engine was of little use because it had not been charged recently, but with the aid of extinquishers and a plentiful supply of water the fire was soon under control and the building was saved though greatly damaged. The stock of goods was also ruined by smoke and most of the household goods were destroyed. The loss is somewhat roughlyestimated at $2500, partly covered by insurance. Since the fire the Guill family have been occupying the living rooms in the Reeves building. They have the sympathy of the people of the community in their severe loss.
