ROAD WORK INWARREN COUNTYCOST 810 SUMClose to Million DollarsExpended on Two RoutesThis Year.Hard road contracts awarded last winter by the state highway department for construction in Warren county, aggregating over $900,000 are to be completed within the next few weeks, j Altogether the cost of Route 8 j through Warren county, which ispractically completed, has been about $500,000, of phich $400,000 was expended this year. Between Mon- j mouth and Galesburg the Central En- j gineering company built about fifteen miles of concrete at a cost of $227,500. However, grading, paving and bridge contracts already completed last year , on Miner and Harding hills had cost, ' the state $100,000, making the total cost of the road between the two cities about $375,000.The section between Monmouth and Kirkwood, to be completed later this week by the Central Engineering company, cost the state highway depart- \ ] ment $112,112.13. There was another short stretch in the county west of Kirkwood built by the Miller Construction company included in the work done this year.Between Kirkwood and Burlington the pavement will not be completed for several weeks, owing to a late start in grading at Burlington, but'] contracts have been let and the cost j is known. The Miller Construction i company built over twelve miles of i concrete at a cost of $250,000 this lt;year. The grading work was com- ] pleted two years ago at a cost of -; $100,000 and the Conroy Construction , lt;company had already paved six miles lt;1at a cost of nearly $125,000,The total cost of the road between Galesburg and Burlington will exceed $1,000,000, of which $650,000 was spent this summer for about thirty-two miles of concrete and some bridge and grading work.Route 3 A.so Costly.Contracts awarded last April to the Cameron Joyce company on Route 3 in Warren county for 11.5 miles of concrete cost the state about $280,000. An additional four miles of paving was built on the north county line by the |O'Neil Construction company .thisfall at a cost of $100,000, which in addition to grading and bridge contracts awarded on the road to the amount of nearly $200,000 made the]|]total cost of the work on Route 3 this year near $500,000. |On the two main routes through the ', county a little less than $1,000,000 was ( expended this year.
