A finer day no one couldwish, the sky was clear and 1 lie day was just warm enough to makeit agreeable and pleasant, and the people took advantage of the pleasant day and turned out in great mini*bers; the crowd at 3 o’ttloCfc, the time of laying the ^toue, was 3,000 strong. The first arrivals came on the Peoria excursion which passed ht about 7 o’clock. Carriages and buggies from all directions soon after began to arrive and did not cease ut - jtil 3 o’clock in the afternoon, by j\which time every feed stable and u-vailable place in town was filled with e teams; many being unable to find | w hitching places Mbppfcd in thestree;si^• Surrounding the church site and:II ° ill there was scarcely any room left. At 10 o’clock a. ra. the special trair, of five coaches from Lafayette crowd-ri ed to the platforms, arrived, bring-^ ing Father Dinnen, the presiding officer, and several othe: priests, a iso the Lafayette CJiLi*sent%* band. The Begular train at noon came in on ^ time and it was also crowded. At the noon hour theie' 4ws a great rush for dinner ' and the vast crowd was served without any, difficulty. Two long tables had been j '' arranged on which the Catholic ladies had spread 250 pintesand a great abundance of the best the land affords 1 and for two or three hours every plateQwas in use the waiters kept busy. There was also a refreshment stand on the ground and it did a land office business, Beautiful sou-venicr badges bad been provided and met with a ready sale. It was indeed si plcarant t lir.e. the t-st rf lt;der prevailed, no accidents occured and everybody seemed to be in the best of humor and having a good time.
