A finer day no one couldwish, the sky was clear and the day was just warm enough to makeit agreeable and pleasant, and thepeople took advantage of the pleasant day and turned out- in gr-at num* bers; the crowd at 3 o’ttloCtc, the time of laying the ^toue, was *3,000 strong. The first arrivals came on the Peoria excursion which passed ht about 7 o’clock. Carriages and buggies from all dlvect-ions soon after began lo arrive and did not cease ut * j til 3 o’clock in the afternoon, by jiwhich time every feed stable and u-ivailableplacein town was filled with teams; many being unable to find | hitching places fctbppfed in the street siSurrounding the Church site and:' |there was scarcely any room left. At 10 o’clock a. ra. the special train, of five coaches from Lafayette crowded to the platforms, arrived, bringing Father Dinnen. the presiding otfi-ccr, and several othe! priests, a iso the Lafayette CiLbeni* band. The segular train at noon came in on time and it was also crowded. There was also a refreshmentstand on the ground and it did a land office business, Beautiful sou-venicr badges bad been provided and met with a ready sale.
