THE NEWS OF A LIVE TOWN TERSELY TOLD. F. D. Freeborn, Scribe. Cold weather! Whoever saw it as dry at this time of year? More than one-half the wells in town are dry. Theodore Gleason has moved into Wm. Muldoon’s house. Frank Shuart of Fillmore visited his father, M. L., Tuesday. R. Neely has rented his farm on White Creek to Fred McCarthy. W.L. Young and family of Fill more visited his parents over Sunday. The carpenter gang was here in town last week shingling our depot. Dr. Hammond and wife of Angel ica visited Rev and Mrs. Drake last week. Miss Katherine Deay has gone to Rochester to visit her sister, Mar garet. Mrs. Clement of Houghton visited Mrs. M. Titsworth a few days last week. The Misses Alice and Pauline Ren wick were home from Belmont over Sunday. Mrs. I. D. Hunt visited her daugh ter, Mrs. Dr. Sayres, in Rushford last week. J. W. Hunt and wife attended the funeral of Mrs. Mary Farnum of An gelica Sunday. Mrs. Geo. Thornton and daughter visited her sister, Mrs. Seivert, in Olean a few days last week. Eugene Pratt has sold his place below town to Robert Lang and will move to Bay City, Michigan. Mrs. O. B. Hawley and daughter of Faribault, Minn., is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. Mix. Miss Quinn, Mrs. Butterfield’s trimmer, is in the city this week studying the art of millinery. See notice, A good many of our young men were regular attendants at the even ing sessions of the institute at An gelica last week. ‘Mrs. J. M. Davis started Monday for her home in Chicago much im proved in health from her summer’s sojourn in Belfast, LL. Hunt has just put in a new large size Cleveland safe. We are glad to see this evident signs of pros perity in our neighbor, Cashier G. N. Manley of Canasera ga visited his brother, W. B., over Sunday, and then started Monday for a visit to Ellicottville. For the benefit of our friends we will say that the article in the Pat riot of Sept. 19th was “ local cogno men yarns,” which information we learned by inquiring. The Ladies Guild of Grace church will meet with Mrs. Geo. Thornton next Saturday afternoon. Supper will be served from five to seven; all are cordially invited. Fred Williams has moved to An gelica where he has formed a part nership with Mr. Nichols in a black smith shop. Fred is a first-class workman and we are sorry to see him leave town. Chas. Morehouse has laid on our desk five potatoes of the Rural New York variety which weigh nearly eight pounds and were all dug from one bill. They are all of a size, very smooth and such potatoes as would tickle the palate of any epicure. Mrs. Hugh M. Smith was found dead in bed last Thursday morning. She has been nearly helpless for twelve or fifteen years and has suf fered greatly. She was the wife of Hugh M. Smith of this place, who is one of the oldest residents of this vi cinity.
