_1 Air Force Airman Marvin Jason Gill has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Marquita and Marvin Gill of Markham and a 1995 graduate of Marian Catholic High School, Chicago Heights , Air Force Senior Airman Yvette Crawford has arrived for duty at Andersen Air Force Base, Agana, Guam. A requisi tioning clerk, she is the daughter of Vivian Hari of University Park and Ned Crawford of Calumet City. The senior airman is a 1988 graduate of Rich East High School, Park Forest Navy Fireman Apprentice Eric Taylor, a 1993 graduate of Thornton Fractional South High School of Lansing, com pleted U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes. During the eight-week program, he completed a variety of training that included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, fire fighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and air craft safety Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Edward Grabinski, son of Stanley and Bernadette Grabinski of Lansing, reported for duty at Navy Recruiting District Chicago, Fort Sheridan. The 1990 gradu ate of Marian Catholic High School of Chicago Heights joined the Navy in August 1990. Air Force Capt. Harry Jackson has been named company grade officer of the quarter. Selection was based on the individ ual’s exemplary duty performance, job knowledge, leadership qualities, significant self-improvement and other accomplish ments Jackson is chief of programs with the 97th Civil Engineer Squadron at Altus Air force Base, Oklo. He is the son of Corinne Jackson of Blue Island. His wife, Christy, is the daughter of Lewis Smith of Dalton. The captain is a 1984 graduate of Dwight D. Eisenhower High School, Blue Island, and a 1989 graduate of the University of Illinois, Chicago. Navy Fireman Apprentice Eric Taylor, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Harris of Lynwood, completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes. Taylor received instruc tion on the Navy’s core values of honor, courage and commitment. He is a 1993 graduate of Thornton Fractional South High School, Lansing. Navy Airman Octavio Granados, son of Octavio and Ana Granados of Calumet City, assisted in the rescue of two Iranian merchant seamen in the Persian Gulf while on a six-month deployment aboard the aircraft carrier USS Constellation. Lookouts spotted the men clinging to floating debris off the coast of Bahrain who had been adrift for five days after their merchant ship sank. The sailors launched a rescue boat and a search heli copter for other survivors. The 1996 graduate of Thornton Fractional North High School joined the Navy in June 1996 Navy Hospitalman C.I. Jacobs, son of Shana Jones of Lynwood, departed on a six-month deployment to the Western Pacific Ocean aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitzwith. The ship departed from its homeport in Bremerton, Wash., as the lead ship of the USS Nimitz Battle Group, comprising 10 tactical air craft squadrons, eight ships and two submarines and replacing the USS Constellation Battle Group in the Western Pacific and Indian Oceans and the Persian Gulf. Following the deployment, Jacobs’ ship will steam to Newport News, Va., for the first refuel ing of its nuclear reactors. The 1993 graduate of Oak Park River Forest High School joined the Navy in May 1994. _. Marine Pfc. Marcus McCall, grandson of Curtis and Massie Coleman of Dalton, completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. Physical conditioning and classroom and field assignments in first aid, uniform regulations, combat water survival, marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat and weapons training were included. He is a 1990 graduate of John Marshall Harlan Academy, Chicago Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Micah Pakowski, son of James and Patricia Pakowski of Calumet City, graduated from the Navy’s Basic Nuclear Power School at Naval Nuclear Power Training Unit, Ballston Spa, N.Y. Pakowski studied basic mathe matics and physics for three months in preparation for hands-on training. The 1993 graduate of Marian Catholic High School, Chicago Heights, joined the Navy in December 1995. Navy Fireman Sean Coleman, son of Linda Davis of Markham, is halfway through a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea aboard the recovery and salvage ship USS Grapple which relieved USNS Powhatan. Coleman’s ship was instrumental in the recovery of wreckage from TWA flight 800. Coleman is a 1995 graduate of Thornwood High School in South Holland. Marine Pfc. Butler Morgan, of Calumet City, completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego and was pro moted to his present rank. Physical conditioning, classroom and field assignments in first aid, uniform regulations, combat water survival, marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat and weapons train ing were included. Morgan is a 1993 graduate of Lee High School of Chicago. He is the son of Yolanda Morgan, also of Calumet City. Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Christy Hinko, daughter of Timothy and Dawn Hinko of Glenwood, departed on a six-month deployment to the Western Pacific Ocean aboard the aircraft carri er USS Nimitz from its homeport in Bremerton, Wash., as the lead ship of the USS Nimitz Battle Group in the Pacific and Indian Oceans, and Persian Gulf. The crew prepared participating in a Pacific Joint Task Force Exercise off the coast of Southern California which involved more than 15,000 U.S. and Canadian forces. The 1993 graduate of Seton Academy in South Holland joined the Navy in August 1993 Navy Fireman Scott Beilfuss, son of James and Kathleen Beilfuss of Lansing, departed on a six-month deployment to the Western Pacific Ocean aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz, which departed its homeport in Bremerton, Wash., as the lead ship of the USS Nimitz Battle Group in the Western Pacific and Indian Oceans and Persian Gulf. The crew prepared by participating in a Pacific Joint Task Force Exercise off the coast of Southern California. The 1993 graduate of Illiana Christian High School joined the Navy in March 1996. , Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Melvin Jackson, a 1979 gradu ate of Thornton Township High School in Harvey, departed on a six-month deployment to the Western Pacific Ocean aboard the air craft carrier USS Nimitz from its homeport in Bremerton, Wash., as the lead ship of the USS Nimitz Battle Group in the Western Pacific and Indian Oceans and Persian Gulf. The crew prepared by participating in a Pacific Joint Task Force Exercise off the coast of Southern California. Jackson joined the Navy in May 1981.
