Mrs. Dana Bookman was much surprised Wednesday evening when forty of her friends arrived to help her celebrate her fiftieth birthday. They brought plenty of food and an enjoyable time was had. Those present were: Mrs. Flossie Taylor and daughter Regina, Mrs. Lan caster Brown, Mrs. Theodore Brown and son Bobby, Mrs. Etta Andrews, Mrs. Fannie Locke, Mrs. John Ma son, Mrs. Clancy Oakley, Mrs. Leota Corwin, Mrs. Cinderella Bowen, Mrs. Flo Sohn, Mrs. John Robson, Mrs. Olive Dixon, Mrs. Anna Har ris, Mrs. Minnie Harris, Mrs. Ralph Ball, Mrs. Susie Newman, Mrs. Charles Stadler, Mrs. Vera Turner, Mrs. Agnes McDonald, Mrs. Beulah Savage, Mrs. Myrtle Mohney, Mrs. Myrtle Sweazy, Mrs. Mattie Black stone, Mrs. Mary Rittenmier, Mrs. Molly Keeney, Mrs. Anna Tolliver, Mrs. Olive Groves, Mrs. Hayden, Mrs. Ruth Keifer, Mrs. Arthur Tay lor, Mrs. Eva Wright, Mrs. Will Lewis, Mrs. Emma McGee, Mrs. Jack Cupit, Mrs. Winifred Shir ley, Mrs. George Andrews, Mar garet Colbert, Virginia Bowen, Willa Wade, Mrs. Theodore Brown and son, Bobby, of Detroit, are visiting Mr. j and Mrs. Lancaster Brown. The members of the Epworth League gave a Chile con carne din ner Thursday in the basement of the M. E. church. . The proceeds are to be used toward the repair ing of the church. They are plan ning on giving a soup dinner in two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Andrews are the parents of a son who has been named Bobby Lee. Mrs. John Mason entertained members of her club Thursday eve ning. Funeral services were held for aged Mrs. Smathers at her home Friday morning. Mrs. Will Smathers has been vis iting at Wellsburg, W. Va. Mrs. Etta Andrews has returned from Detroit, where she had been visiting her son, Gilbert, and fam ily. Mrs. Francis, who broke her hip was taken to St. Anthony's hospital, Thursday for treatment. Will Losey, who has been an in valid since he was injured in a mine three years ago, was taken to the Radium hospital for treatment Tuesday. Mrs. Losey had taken him to visit her mother at Jackson where he took sudenly ill. She and Mrs. John Sabo accompanied him to Columbus. From last re ports Mr. Losey is better. Mrs. Ike Parker and daughter, Celia, are now at the home of the former’s son, Will Losey, where they were called by his suden ill ness. Mr. and Mrs. Dana Bookman had as their guests Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Will Orr and daughter, Char lotte of Bashan, and Mr. Edwin Hayman of Long Bottom. Mrs. Lily Robson and family have moved to Columbus where Mr. Robson has employment. Mrs. Kate Maurer, daughter, Mrs. Cash Stratton and Eileen Stratton of Logan were visiting home folks here Sunday. Buchtel high school boys are practicing again for the football season.
