E. Carpenter Tuesday afternoon and spent a most enjoyable and profitable time.A very interesting program was carried out. Mrs. T. B. Adams gave the current events from the Independent in hen own interesting way. Then followed a sketch of Dickens* life by Mrs. Agnes Pratt, which was enjoyed very much.The remainder of the program consisted of a synopsis of various worksby Dickens.Mrs. Werner gave Old CuridsftyShop and Oliver Twist.Miss Della Morrison gave Donvbey and Son and Martin Chuzzlewit.Mrs. PTarris, David Copperfield andNicholas Nickleby.Mrs. Clifford Johnson, a sketchfrom Pickwick Papers, which was enjoyed very much.Following the program was a very interesting Dickens contest, in which Mrs. C. F. Ernst won first prize, “Gems From Dickens/’ and MissDaphne Vaughn, second, “Memory Gems.” The hostess, assisted by Mrs. Purvis and Miss Anna Mae Carpenter, served tea, hot rolls and tea cakes.Thus closed one of the many de« jkghtfui events of the C.
