Pater, of the Second Ward, has been, appointed Street Commissioner by Director or Public Works Kriegcnhnefer, to succeed John Holtz-bergcr, who resigned to go into business. Mr. Pater was the Democratic candidate for Street Commissioner at the lime of the enactment of the Board of Control law, which abolished tlio election of Street Commissioner and made the utliee appointive. For several months Mr. Pater has been superintendent of the city crematory, and his promotion to the office of Street Commissioner Is a compliment to his worth. Mr. Pater is a good Democrat, and his many friends are pleased to soo him succeed to the ottlco of which ho was deprived after election several years ago.
