How to Approach Strange Dogs,In approaching strange dogs, it in lest to notice the eves. The highest authority we know of states that when a dog is angry or excited the pupii is always dilated, and tbut with ordinaryanimals this sign may lie implicitly depended on, and that by waiting till the pupil is again contracted they m ny l»e approached tn safety. Home breeds, however, snch as the bnil-terrier and St. Bernard, are of very uncertain temper, and will sometimes snap without i any warning. With all snch it is well to be cautions ; but when approachesbecome necessary, coolness without presumption is the best policy. If you areafraid, do not appear to be so if you can help it, aud the probability is that thebrute will submit. But it is best neverto approach a large strange dog till youknow his disposition; we have known sad results from want of caution in this respect. . Savage dogs are best killed and out of the way. But they axe the exception ; the rule is affection the most tinbouuded, devotion the most absolute, fidelity the most inviolable, obedience most perfect; and all this, if you will, yon may have in your dog.—Cassell's“Household Guide.
