Sheriff to vacate apartment by DecemberThe Humboldt County Board of Supervisors Monday approved a motion requesting Sheriff Marvin Anderson to vacate his apartment on the third floor of the Courthouse on or about Dec. 1, so that conversion of the floor into office space can begin.Action on the courthouse custodian Virgil Terwilliger, who also lives on the third floor, was tabled until next week, because the matter did not appear on Monday's agenda.According to Ron Sande of Sande Construction, the general contractor for the new jail at the Law Enforcement Center in Humboldt, the jail should be ready for occupancy by the first part of November. The third floor, which houses the present county jail, in addition to the sheriff's and custodian’s apartments, has been targeted for remodeling to house the offices of the Department of Social Services, and other county offices. The sheriffs apartment was located on the third floor so that 24-hour supervision could be provided for the jail. When the jail is relocated, that supervision will be provided by jailers *and dispatchers at the LEC.In other business, the board approved the transfer of $16,800 of revenue sharing funds to the public safety fund as budgeted, and approved the payment of mileage to the county's appointee to the County Land Preservation and Use Commission for any meetings he attends. The board appointed David Havlik to the Mental Health Advisory Board, and approved the attendance of the Mental Health Advocate to the annual advocates meeting in Des Moines Oct. 16-16.
