SACRAMENTO—4U.P)—The ap pointment of seven Californians to the positions of Assistant De puty State foresters was announ ced today by State Forester De will Nelson of the Division of Forestry. The appointments were made as a result of a recent evil service examination. They will become effective on November 1. Those appointed were: Charles W. Fairbank, district 1, with headquarters of Santa Rosa; Leonidas T. Petersen, district 2, headlynanives of Rudin; John W. Tomblin, district a, with head quarters in, North Sacraments; Willie Jacobson, histruct 4, headquarters in Fresno; Cart G. Altertus, district 3, headquarters in Monterey; Elie; EF. Osterman, district 6, headquarters wm River side, and Melvin Ponpania, who o will act as operations officer in the Stile Forester's officem Sac ramento James Glenn, who has been aging assistant deputy state for ester in district 1, has taken over the ranger duties in charge of Sonoma county.
