Capt. J. A. Roberts.Cant. J. A. Roberts, whoso death (it the Soldiers' Home In Jacksonville, Sept.. Doth, was briefly mentioned in these columns Just week, who born In Hamilton, Monroe county. Miss.. April 7th, 1886. He was married to Miss Julia C. Booth In October, 1880, about which time he enlisted in the Confederate army and served loyally and well through the four years of the war His fidelity and valor won him the captaincy of his company.He became a member of the Presbyterian church over *28 years ago and was a devout Christian until his death.On removing from Mississippi, ho first settled at Humterville in this State and lived subsequently In Jacksonville, Tampa. Fort Myers and Punta (Jordu. Ho name to Pun ta Oorda in 1900, and, after six years residence, removed to Tampa, hut returned here hint February and later secured admission to the Confederate home In Jacksonville, which he entered last April. For several years, his health had been falling and that was why he sought admission to the home.Wherever he lived In Florida, he engaged In the hotel business, which threw him in contact with many people from nil parts of the Btate and caused him to he widely known and respected. His death, therefore, caused sorrow to a multitude of friends throughout Florida.Ills funeral, which was held in Jacksonville on Oct. 1st mid was conducted hy Rev. Paul C. Brown, of the Presbyterian church, was largely attended, and ho was laid to rest In the Confederate cemetery.He leaves a widow and two sons, Win, A. Roberts, of Pnnta Oorda, and Raymond Roberts, of Jacksonville, to mourn his loss. To these the heartfelt sympathies of a host of friends are extended. The widow, Mrs. J. A. Roberts, and her son Raymond, will continue to resido in Jacksonville, making their home at No 7 West Church street.We will add that in the death of Capt. Roberts, the editor of Thk IIkkai.p feels u personal bereave incut, having regarded him as a close and valued friend and one of those line old Southern gentlemen for whom he feels genuine re spent and esteem.
