An expensive wreck occurred Saturday evening on the C. E. I. railroad ,at the’ Bernhart stone quarry north of the city about a mile. _ A ‘south bound empty coal train and the north bound local freight met,in a head end collision. Both engines were badly damaged and about fifteen cars derailed and badly broken up .The south bound train was in charge of a new man, and he had orders to stop at the long switch at the Milligan crossing to pass the local. He came up to the place sooner than he expected and was going at a ra pid speed. The grade was so steep that he could not stop. The local of course was not ex pecting to meet the other train and was also running at a good speed. Both train crews jumped and no one was hurt.
