At Greenwood, Miss., there is a Masonic lodge composed of colored gentlemen. Several murders of a mysterious nature have occurred near there in the past two years, and the whites claim that the negro Masonic order have made a practice of avenging death or injury to any of their craft. Some time ago a negro was killed in a fight by Harry Taylor, and a few days afterward Taylor’s body was found in the river. An investigation was instituted and the result was a verdict by the jury that the man was murdered by members of the negro Masonic lodge, and their arrest recommended. Considerable excitement prevails.
