A large congregation was present last night at the Baptist Tabernacle, the con gregational singing was good, and the atten tion excellent. The subject was:‘OsEpIENxce”’ and the text was taken from Exodus iv. 4: “Take it by the Tail.’ The following is a condensed outline of the sermon: I. God never commands impossibilities. “And the Lord said unto Moses, put forth thine hand and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand.” (Ex. iv. 4.) Moses but touched the snake and it be came a stick. We cannot carry obedience too far when God gives the command. When God speaks we can walk within a fiery furnace, and when the Son of God speaks we can walk on sea waves. If, Man is safe in rendering obedience to the commands of God. Moses ran from the awake; hence, I take it, that it was a dangerous looking reptile. But the voice of God gave him new courage, and the awake taken by the tail became a harmless rod. It is safe to do the Lord's commands, Prof. C—., said to me: ‘Quit studying for the ministry and go on a farm; you will die if you continue.” But I believed that the Lord called me to the work of the ministry, and continued; and my health is better now than at that time. III. The Lord warns men of possible danger. “The Lord said unto Moses take it by the tail,’ its weaponless, natural part. And he (Moses) put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand.’”’ (Ex. 4: 4.3 The Lord gives countless warnings so that men may avoid possible dangers. Ty The Lord rewards obedience. The serpent became a rod in the hand of Moses at the command of God. First, To Moses it was a signa by which to convince the children of Israel that he was the mes enger of God sent to redeem them from the oppression of Egypt. 2. God quelled the fears of Moses, Read Ex. 4: 6-7. Moses did not run, complain, or show signs of fear, but waited until the Lord healed the leprous hand. After we have heard the Lord say: Give me thy heart, life, and service, and have obeyed, we need never fear what shall follow in life or death. VV. We are certainly stronger when we feel our weakness. Moses felt his weakness to battle with the snake, for he ran away, but the moment God called him back, back he came and evinced his new strength by obeying the voice of God. Moses realized that he could not paralyze the serpent with his own touch, but with God's assistance he could master the reptile. We must feel our weakness and our need of God’s help. VII “That which is produced miracu lously is always the best and strongest of the kind.” The snake made by the com mand ofod from Moses’ rod, was a gen uine snake, and it was certainly of a very deadly kind, for the sight of it made the great strong Moses “see from before it.” The wine made miraculously was the best of the kind. ‘Thou hast kept the good wide until now.” (John 2:1-10.) Re member the greatest of miracles—the bring ing of Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, into the world. Remember He was the best of men, the only perfect man that has ever lived. My friends accept Him, and be ready to say at all times: And I have heard of Him who lived, and died and lives again, And trust in Him, who saves believing men, *Though oft’ they’ve erred.
