She has a sister, Wilma Jackson, also a resident at Colonial Manor, four deceased sisters-Lela, a set of twins, and Blanche Osness, Minnesota. Three brothers, Virgil, William, Weldon, and one adopted sister, Norma Spence, are also deceased. One adopted brother, Cecil Christopher, lives in La Porte City.Her parents moved to Mt. Auburn, where her father opened a veterinarian office. She grew up there and graduated from Mt. Auburn High 1 School. She was a member of lt;the Methodist Church and 1 played the piano for the Sun- lday School classes. They then moved back to La Porte City. : October 18, 1925, Irene married Leo Harkness of La Porte lt;City. They were parents of 1 Melvin, Kenosha, Wisconsin; ] Robert, La Porte City; and Roger, Illinois. She has nine- i teen grandchildren, two being lt;deceased, three great grandchildren, and seven great, great grandchildren.Irene worked in Harold | Johnson’s Bakery/Store, Diamond’s Grocery, Byam’s I Retail, and as a telephone operator, La Porte City. She t also worked as a cook at Col- t onial Manor for three years. (Irene belonged to Church £ Circles, Pythian Sisters, was J Past Noble Grand of the Reb- : ekahs, V.F.W.
