WAR VETERANPASSES AWAYJacob Gearhart Hummer. a well known n sident, died ai his home, Dewart street, South Danville, at 15 o’clock Tuesday morning following a long siege of illness.The deceased was aged 7? years, 4 months and 27 da vs. He was born inmRush township,Northumberland county,and with the exception of some two years sj*ent in the army, lived his entire life on the south side. He wit* a carpenter by oeeujwition. He was a good citizen; a dutiful husband and a kind parent.He was a veteran of the civil war, enlisting October 3, D»”?, in Company A. 58th regiment, P V. I. He was honorably discharged October 15, 1M»5, on account of the war closing. Among other engagements he participated in the battles of Petersburg. Richmond, Gobi Harbor, Fort Harrison, yt the fall of Petersburg and at the fall of Richmond.The deceased is survived by his wife, four sons. J. Dallas Hummer, of Danville; Alfred, of A vis, Clinton county; Edward and Frank,of South Danville; also three daughters. Mrs. Elizabeth Miller, of Riverside; Mrs. William Hoover, of Plum Creek valley, and Mrs. Edward Hoffner, of Hlyria.Ohio. Four sisters, who resides at different points in the west, al-o survive.The funeral will be held from thelate residence Thursdav afternoon at 2¥i o'clock. Interment will be made at Mr. Vernon o.-meten The s-rvie, - at the grave will be private.
