The Commander-in-Chief being desirous thet the organisation of the militia of the Teni-tory should be completed os early as poesible, has formed the regiments ami extra battalion, into two brigades. The 1st brigade consists of the regimes of Iowa, Du Buq„e, Des Moines, and Crawford. Tha ill, brigade constate of the regimental districts, composing the original counties of Brown and Milwaukee.i. Col. William S. Hamilton, will assume the command of the first brigade, and Col. Jonathan W he lock, the command of the second brigade.3. I he Colonels or commanding officers of the different regimental districts and the extra battalion now organised, will muster their respective commarris between the first and last day* of Octo-oer, ■« such times a.iu pUcss ns the commanding oofficers of the brigades may direct, and immediately thereafter make a fuiljanri complete return to the commandant of the brigndo to which they belong. Those returns must contain the names ul the officers, tbeir rank, dates of their commission*, corpe to which they belong, and the placet of their residence. Also the names of the non-coromis-sloned officers, musicsans, and privates, the number, kind and quality of thsir arms and accoutrements.4. The commandants ef brigades will then consolidate thot* return* and furnish the Adjutant General with a roster.5. The rolunteer companies are considered as being attached to the regiments within the limits of which they bars bean formed, and they will be mustered at the nmc times and places deii-nated for the mustering of the regiment*.6. Aa the election for company officers in the regimental district composed of the orig.nal co:n-ty of Des Moina were not held in obedience to t ie general order issued from this office dated the 15th of December last, the Commande-in-Chief repeals the ordtr that the Colonel or commanding officer,r- (khal), with as little dtlay as posibla, divide his districts Into heats or company districts; and order the elections of company officers to be held there-in. Each company will consist of one Captain,, One 1st Lieutenant and one 2d Licutonnnr, and »v»t mare than 64 nor less than 30 man, including non- coramieaioned officers.7. As soon as the elections shall have been held, and the returns made to the Colonel or commanding officer of the district, he will forward a list of the company officers to this office, and direct the captains to make the enrollment of their districts agreeably to law. The Captains will then forward their muster lolls of their companies to the Colonel or Commanding officer, who will consolidate them and transriit them to tho office of the Adjutant General.ri. Although the Commnnder-in-Chicf is not a-ware of any probable interruption of the present relations which exist with tho neighboring tribe* of Indians, yet he believes that the most certain means of preventing aggression is to bs always ready to repel It, he therefore repeats the wish that a company of mounted riflemen or dragoons should bo formed in eech regimental district, to Isold themselves ready armed und equipped, to take the field upon die shortest notice.9.
