Very Fascinating Work To Watch»If there is a traffic tie-up on highway 18 between the Spies Corner and the County Shed, there would be a good ^reason. A new water tower is ‘'going; up and the'work is very ■ fascinating, considering the men doing the job don't mind hanging over the edge and climbing over the very top of the tower wench at 80 feet in the air, as if they were only a little way above the ground.Tuesday, at approximately ls30 PM a section of the tower was put on and the wench wasn't high enough to lift the section onto, so Robert Plum-blee, foreman, quickly climbed onto the section to be fitted in and worked the hoist up and when it would go no further, he then, with little to hang o* to, easily climbed on tothe top of the hoist. With what appeared to be a crow bar, in his hand, Robert worked the hoist up to the very last notch while hanging over the ‘ tip top df the se ct ion. He the n crawled back on the top of the hoist and quickly scaled the section, back to the inside, sliding the piece of tower in place.The men worked continuously welding, There are e ight welders on a huge truck w ith , at least six of these going at all times. As soon as one piece is welded it is quickly hoisted up, fitted on by the men on iron ladders, which they weld on as they go, for scaffolding. While on these ladders, the welding continuously goes on.The first section of the tower has four sections welded together with the next five stogfc sfrculM p.ie?c«,..^fte£this last Wats Pu* .Tuesday, the bowl of the tower will be put together in five sections, and fitted next. These five pieces will be hoisted to the top - one section at a time.After this last section was put in place, Tuesday, the crew spent the rest of the afternoon raising the' tower hoist to a much higher postion, in order to lift the bowl pieces to the tower.The company doing tfhe job, PDM Hydrostorage, Inc. of Franklin, Tennesee, expects to be finished by Sunday, weather co-operating*
