Alvin Richow of Racine celebrated his 23d birthday on August 15 with the cake he is shown receiving in the above pic ture, but it took the intervention of relatives in Racine, the Red Cross and an army officer’s wife in Hawaii to get the cake to the Racine soldier in time for the celebration. When Private Richon’s two aunts, Mrs. Jack Rulle and Mrs. Al Pflieger learned that he wanted a birthday cake, they enlisted the aid of the Racine Red Cross office, which put them in touch with an officer’s wife who baked the cake in the islands. It was presented to him by a native girl, with appropriate ceremony, on his birthday. Private Richow, who has been overseas since last November, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Richow, 3207 Washington avenue.
