The remains of Homer W. Perry man, an enlisted man in Co. C., 141st Infantry 36th Division arrived in Thorndale Friday afternoon on the 2:15 train and was escorted by the local post of the American Legion to the Connell cemetery near Conoley, where it was laid to rest with full mi litary honors. Both the public school and St. Paul’s Parochial school turned out en masse to honor the Meuse-Argonne hero, the pupils of the schools forming in double lines along the main street through which the funeral cortege moved. Business houses of the city were also closed during the funeral as a mark of respect to one who had made the supreme sacrifice for his country. . Lieutenant Schram of Taylor and 1st Sgt. Joe Norris of Thorndale had charge of the military service and were assisted by bugler Forwood of Taylor, and ammunition man E. Lee also of Taylor. A military escort composed of Lt. EB. L. Laurence, Ben Northcott, Wm. Junek and John Anderson were the honorary pall bearers. Active pall bearers composed of former service men were: B. H. Camp, Ebb Moore, Carl Werner, Morgan Jenkins, A Richter and Herman Weise. The firing squad composed of L. G. Butts, Henry Eitze, Jack Cowan, Roy Clarke, E. Titsworth, L. Titsworth, Henry Dutschman, Wm. Unnasch and #. H. Freddy fired three volleys over the remains after the religious cere mony conducted by Rev. P. R. White, rr of the Methodist church. The owing of “taps” by buglar Forwood at a last mark of respect to the fallen hero was a requim to one who had fallen with his face toward the foe. Homer W. Perryman was born near Thorndale on August 12, 1887, where he was reared, later moved with his parents to Taylor. He enlisted in the United States Army on May 27, 1918.
