Silver Service for Cruiser MarylandThe contract for making thetestimonal to be presented to thecruiser Maryland by the people ofthe State was awarded to the Samuel Kirk Son Co., Balto, Monday, by the Maryland Cruiser Fund Commission. The gift will be a silver service, composed of 48 separate pieces, and will cost $5,000. The presentation will probably take place next spring. Upon the various pieces will be depicted historical events relating to the State. On 31 of the pieces events relating to counties are shown, and on the 12 punch cups the first 12 Colonial Governors are represented. In making the designs it was sought to keep in mind the important part played by every section of the State in the history of the nation.The forms are simple and grace ful, conveying the idea of hospitality and plenty, for which the State is famous.The piece upon which designs symbolizing Cecil county will be represented is a Fish Platter, the designs chosen being two scenes from Gilpin’s Rock’s, fishing scenes on the Susquehanna, hay making, river products.Two Serving Waiters.—Kent County—Chestertown tea party, voyage of Capt. John Smith up the bay, skirmish of Calk’s Field and death of Sir Peter Parker.Two Round Entree Serving Dishes.—Harford County—Birthplaces of William Paca and Edwin Booth, rolling roads.
