MRS. W1NHEIMSUICIDESDrinks Carbolic Acid in Their Home and Dies in Agony a Few Hours LaterSENT TO IOWATo be Burled in the Cemetery at Buxton, Where her Parents) iResideMrs. R. C. Winheim committed suicide by drinking carbolic acid at her home in this city last Thursday night. The reason for such an act is said to have been ill health. Mrs. Winheim was the wife of R. C. Winheim who runs the palace saloon on the corner of 2nd street and Dakota avenue, and they were living in rooms over the sample room of the same building. She was seen at the 9:00 o’clock trains on the evening before committing the deed and appeased to be in her usual spirits while chatting to friends. After the trains departed she returned home where she was later joined by her husband who had been out to Lake Byron hunting and came up to their rooms after taking supper at the restaurant.Of course there are many rumors as to other causes than ill health which led to her rash act, but as nothing can be definitely known of them they must of necessity be passed by. The fact remains ‘ that while her husband’s attention was diverted she took a bottle of carbolic acid and was dringing it when he next saw her. He sprang to her and dashed the bottle from her hand. As it fell the contents flew over her face end breast blistering wherever it touched. Medical aid was summoned and everything possible was done to save her life but she never recovered from the stupor into which she sank soon after taking the poison, and died at 10:30 the next morning.A short funeral service was held at the home Saturday morning conducted by Fr. Desmond, and the remains were then sent to Buxton, Iowa, the home of her parents.Mrs. Winheim was some 25 years old.and was a sister of Mrs. M. Fouts of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Fouts with Mr. Winheim accompanied the remains to their final resting place.
