There was also an exciting and sweat-inducing break dancing per formance by The B-Boys inside the gallery. Patrick Perez, a sophomore at UTEP, has been break dancing for five years. “Break dancing has allowed me to gain confidence in myself. It's like an escape. I'm not thinking about anything else. This is a good break from midterms.” The exhibit presents a confluence of the ever-widening range in graffi ti movements and styles, including aerosol muralists, old-school spray can writers, and the next generation of Graf artists. The works run the gamut of available media, including video, surface, object painting (autos included), black books and special clothing designs. Featured local artists include GraveOne, Malo 168, Durok, Karakter, Myker, Skae, Keith Spencer, Adier, Gibes, Mitsumasa, Razo and Check 6. All of these individuals have had a life altering experience as they discov ered the true beauty and unique fine art that is graffiti. Documentary videos were presented by Aerosol Warfare. Dave “Grave” Herrera did a unique form of graffiti on a Corvair that is parked in the Union Breezeway. Luis Contreras, a.k.a. “Karakter,” does graffiti art as a freelance job He made a western-theme mural of a stallion, a white horse and a long, horn steer using aerosol .The best tools of the trade I have found from this scene; perspective, observation and the best of all, aerosol manipulation. The best aspects of spray painting ‘are the coordinated blend of colors, the exe cution of lines and no real bound aries,” Contreras said His wife, Adriana Contreras, is always there to give him feedback and a second opinion about his art work. “My favorite is the stallion because you can see the actual movements of the beast with the aerosol.
