TomSo Tom hung up his hammerEudora Welty returns to U of C for lectureSouthern writer Eudora Welty returns to the University of Chicago, 10 years after her last visit, to give the William Vaughan Moody lecture on Oct. 19 at 5:30 p.m. in University Theater (adjacent to Mandell Hall), 5706 University Ave.The lecture is free and open to the public. Welty is now 80 years old and continues to live and work in her place of birth, Jackson, Miss., the source of inspiration for much of her fiction.Accompanying her on this trip is fellow Jackson resident, Jane Reid-Petty, who will present “Edna Earle,” her one-woman version of Welty’s novella, “The Ponder Heart.” The play will be performed Oct. 20 in University Theater at 2:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Admission is $4 with UC ID and $7 for others.Information is available by calling (312) 702-6421.
