Hansberry Workshop Hosts Pure Black PoetsThe Hansberry Arts Workshop will host the Pure Black Poets on Friday, Oct, 13 at 8 p.m. at Princeton Youth Center. The group, formed in March, 1971, was originally known as the “Jewels of Thought”, operating out of Monterey, Calif. Now the Pure Black Poets reside inPAA Sponsors Lecture Series• A special series of six slide lectures offering area residents an unusual opportunity to learn more about aspects of art history and technique will begin October 11.Sponsored by the Princeton Art Association, the program will feature speakers from the Princeton University ArtPhiladelphia. Their members are: Ray Gillison, Nantamba, Mtunga Ching, and Kashaka. They have performed on Army bases, colleges, universities, in the first annual African Affair in Monterey, and in Philadelphia’s Black Expo 72 with Gil Scott Heron and Stevie Wonder.The philosophy of the Pure Black Poets is to create a nationalistic consciousness. They not only identify with revolutionary black people, but with all black people. The name of the show is “Black Love”. Included in the program will be the Okhogbo Dancers.Tickets will be on sale at the Princeton Youth Center. Prices are $2.50 and $1.50 for students.
