Thanks to the State Parks Board of Texas, the University of Texas will have a mascot, Bevo IV will make his appear ance at the Rice-Texas clash scheduled for Oct. 22 with fitting ceremonies. An assist in securing the mas cot goes to the Silver Spurs, honor ary service organization on the UT campus which got the whole move ment underway. Bevo IV will be loaned by the State Parks Board to the Universi ty. The big longhorn steer will come from Fort Griffin, which lies between Albany and Throckmorton. Dick Fulbright, president of the Silver Spurs, arranged the whole deal whereby the Longhorns will have a fitting mascot after doing without one for a number of years. Beve I, after serving as a dutiful mascot for years, fell prey to a group of Texas Aggies following one of their victories over the Longhorns who branded the score on his side.
