Mrs. Powell refutes the following charges in a statement to News, adding that she will prove the falsity and injustice of them in court.Vincennes, Oct. 5.—Sensational unusual allegations are made in a divorce complaint filed with the clerk of the Knox Circuit Court Wednesday by Alfred R. Powell vs. Ivy 1). Powell.They were united in marriage j t October 14th, 1900, and lived to- ! I gether until July 4th, 1922. Plain-| I tiff alleges the defendant was cruel j « and inhuman to him; that she was j 1 abusive, quarrelsome and continu- 1 ally scolding that she called him vile ■ and indecent names in the presence ! of the children and others. He al- j leges further that he conducted a j butcher shop and grocery store in j Bicknell and got away from home 1 0 early in the morning and returned j 1 home late; that she would falsely accuse him when he returned home; that no one occaston when he had to make a business trip to Chicago, and when he was dressed ready to leave she tore the shirt from his person and destroyed his hat; that on another occasion she threw his ! S clothes into the front yard; that on, j v one occasion when they were going ! o to Sullivan and while he was driving j v the car, she sat in the back seat • t with a pair of sharp pointed scissors j I in her hand with which she continu- | i ally threatened him, frequently jab-cbing the sharp points into his back; that 011 several occasions she locked the door of their home against him, threatening to blow his head off if j j he attempted to come in, and that he ! frequently had to go elsewhere to j spend the night because of her ac- j tion; that she would have violent i fits of anger, threatened him with a p butcher knife and a razor, slapped t the plaintiff in the face frequently; j s that for four months she refused to j i; cook his meals; threatened to kill | him by poisoning him; that she threatened to throw carbolic acid in his eyes, and -that she refused to entertain his mother or father and frequently cursed them.They have three children, Rex, Opal, aged 18, and Garrett, aged 15.
