Mrs. I. R. Aves left this morning for Portland to represente the local W. Cc. T. A. at the state convention. Miss Hazel McNair, who has been seriously ill with peritonitis at her home in Albion, is improving slow ly. Robert Knowles, of Robinson, I11., was the guest between trains of Guy Rickets. There was a jolly little party held at the home of Mrs. Olive Weller Wednesday afternoon from two to five, at the pleasant home two miles south-east of Avilla. Among those present were Mesdames Henry Mur ray, Fred Hall, Samuel Weller, Ed Kelham, Richard Truelove, Jas. Kel ham and the Misses Sarah and Mary Kelham. A delightful luncheon was served at four, the remainder of the afternoon being devoted to a good social time. Laid to Mae Weed. Senator Platt’s low woes with his tvenage wife are laid to Miss Mae Weed, who once practiced law in Elk hart and was a member of the Elk hart county bar. An aged husband, and a buxom young wife and an ath letic youth who holds a menial posi tion in the Platt household are the figures in the story. Behind it all is scented the statuesque beauty of Mae Wood, wreaking her revenge. James Hammel, the expert fruit grower, is harvesting the second crop of raspberries grown upon his prem ises in the south parts of the city this season. The fruit is nice in quality and large in quantity. It is all due, no doubt, to Jim’ skill as a horticul turist. Nearly all Lake Shore trains have been late recently, as it seems every train except the big Hmiteds give precedence to freight traffic.
