Ula death bad been expected for macy weeka, agd even inontlis past, hut when the messenger came there was a gloom and a sadness prevailing as the words “Father Mitchel is dead, went from the lips of every one.Mr. Mitchel was born on the twenty-sevenih day of April, 1807. in Bangor in tbe state ef Maine. On the 29th of Xov., 1826, he was married to Miss Mehitable I'reb’e in Bath, Maine. Eleven Children were bom to them while they lived in Maine—all o. them grew up to be men and women and all married before death invaded their ranks. Henry, Charles and David are citizens of this place. Elizabeth is a citizen of Hudson in this county and tiusan of Mfc. Auburn, Benton County. Mr. Mi tclie’ moved to Meodota, Ul.. in 1810 and fiom their to Manchester, Iowa, in 1855. In the spring of 1858 he moved to this place and baa been a resident here ever since.At the tender age of eighteen Air. Mitchel became a convert to religion and united with the Free*iViii iiabtist cntireh in the year 1825, He remained a member in good standing in that c'mrek until sometime during the summer of 1862, when ]»b became converted to the doctrines taught by the Seventh Day Adventists, and joined tnat organization. !Ve cnuld never see that the change lie made in going from one church to another made any difference in Ilia daily walks. He was a Christian before, and he was still a Christian. Mr. tfitcnel lust bis wife Dec. 28th. 1872. On the 18th day of Sep., 1873, lie was married to Mias Julia E. Crocker who survives him.Mr. Mitchel was a resident of this place almost thirty years. He was aquiet, modest, unassuming citizen_always and ever ready, 113 Mr as way in his power, to lend a helping hand to the poor and needy. Ilis peaceful and quiet walks of life commanded the respects of eyery one. He had no enemies. He died as lie had lived—a good man and In the lull faith that he would be received into Glory at tbe resurrection.His remains were inhumed in 'Veit View Cemetery last Sunday-Elder Herrin ton, of lihiirstowa, officiating.
