Sam Rogers, held for murder by the¥ a m-mrofficers of Robertson county, was at Mi lersburg Tuesday, under guard of the sheriff, summoning witnesses to appear at his examination at Mt. Olivet next week. No one questions Mr. Rogers’ ability t give bond for a million dollars, perhapsf if it was required, nor will we here argue the question of his guilt, or innocence ; but we do ask if there be such a ca9e on record in the annals of the R« public of America, where a precedent o? of like character in positive violation of the law was ever established ? We put the question to all the States in the Union, and pause for a reply. Is it ignorance of the law, or is it mere fluukeyism,becaus*1 the prisoner is rich, that the lawshould be rendered inefficient and officerederelict of their duly ? Certainly if a a poor black man, or even a poor white man, whether he be an Irishman, or American, no such iavors would have been grant ed him under those, or any-other circumstances.Indeed, flunkeyisin is becoming unbearable in law, religion, society and even journalisur—yes, journalism! There are papers that will flunkey to any society, clique or clan and turn up their noses at honest worth wherever it beiotind nnatttnnpanied by money,
