Police chargetraffic violatorwith car theftWhat had been a routine stop for a simple traffic violation last week resulted in the arrest of tour men, one of whom was charged with grand theft, when officers noticed the ignition of the car in which the suspects were riding had been tamperedwith.Eleuterio Rodriguez, 19, of 4133 Crystal, was charged Sept. 23 with grand theft, making a turn without giving the proper signal and driving without a license. Alcides Velez, 20, 3658 Wabansia, Roberto Perez, 17, 3318 Division and Luis Santiago, 22, 1144 N. Christiana, were charged with criminal trespass. All three were riding inthe car at the time of the incident.All four will appear in branch 64 Friday, Oct. 6.According to police reports, the car driven by Rodriguez turned east on Crystal from Homan without the driver making the proper signal.When officers stopped the car, they noticed that the ignition had been pulled out and asked Rodriguez to show proof of ownership. When the victim told police he had no proof the car was his and no drivers license, they placed him under arrest.A trace on the car’s ownership showed that the car had been reported stolen earlier near 1116 N. Kedzie.The car is registered to Rafael Esparza, 829 N. Ridgeway.Rodriguez reportedly told police an unknown male of Spanish descent gave him the car to drive.
