WINFIELD — Undefeated High land defeated Winfield-Mt. Union, 18-0, in the Wolves’ Homecoming fame here Friday night, and since Mediapolis upset Wapello, 14-13, lead the Southeast Iowa conference with a 5-0 mark. Win.-MU is 2-3 in the league. In the first quarter, Highland re covered a fumble on the Wolfe 20 and later Jim Herdlicka scored from the two. A run for the conversion wasn’t good. The Wolves started a drive on the Huskie 45 the same period and with Mark Bitting do ing most of the carrying got to the Highland one inch line before losing the ball on downs, Herdiska passed to Jerry Dutler for 12 yards and a touchdown in the second quarter and it was 12-0 at the half. In the final canto, Highland blocked a Win.-MU punt, Tim Carson picked up the ball and ran nine yards to the goal for the final points. Jack Marsten, a tackle, Bitting, Jeff Larson and Joe Leach were singled out by Coach Jim Hafferty for their defensive play. Bitting got 12 tackles and Larson, ten. Steve Norder gained 46 yards in ten car ries, 4.6, and Bitting, 21 in 12, 1.7. Jim Carlson caught four passes. Highland got 15 first downs, rush ed for 185 yards and passed for 43. The Wolves racked up eight first downs, 41 yards not rushing and hit eight of 16 passes for 58 yards, Jeff Carlson doing the throwing. Marston Larson
