County Passes AwayMrs. Emma Barrel*, 78, a lifelong resident of Johnson county and daughter of a pioneer family, passed away at 7:30 o’clock Thursday morning at her home in Iowa City. She had been in failing health for the last yeai*, death resulting from heart trouble.Mrs. Barrer, the former Emma Brack, was born September 27, 1856, in Graham township. Her death occurred on her ,78th birthday.She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Brack. Mr. Brackoperated the only quarries in this vicinity and- hauled lime with; an ox-team the six miles to the Iowa City.Mrs. Barrer was educated in Iowa City and was married to Mr. Jos. V. Barrer on January 1877. ' Mr. Barrer a prominent business man of Iowa City for 25 years passed away 12 years ago.Mrs. Barrer was well known to many of the earlier day university students. .... With an 18—room house, she rented rooms to students, and at one time had 27 students in home. At another, time, 17 of her rooms were freshman: medical students.
