W. E. Demark, district U. S. attorney, secured a written confession, signed by the latter at the hearing last week in which he declares himself the murderer and tells the story of it.The Indians of the Cheyenne reservation held a fair at Dupree recently. Irish Tommy, Morris Mo-ress, Babe LaPlant and others obtained a quantity of whisky and set up headquarters on the allotment of F. Brown. two miles west of Dupree. Joe Narcelle went there in the afternoon and got some of the whisky. He left the place but soon returned and wanted more whisky. He and Irish Tommy got into a quarrel over a horse and some money which Tommy owed to Narcelle. Narcelle was refused the whisky and he told Irish Tommy that if he didn’t give it to him he would tell the authorities, that he was selling whisky. Tommy entered the house and obtained Brown’s shotgun. He came out and shot Narcelle while he was on horsback and unarmed. The shot only wounded the man and the horse started to run. After he had went about 300 yards from the house, Narcelle fell from the saddle rfhd from indications it is supposed he died sometime that night. Irish Tommy staid at the Brown house that night and next morning left for his home 011 Cherry creek, 30 miles distant, accompanied by Moress. After reaching home, his son brought in the horse which was ridden by Narcelle and Tommy turned to Moress and remarked. I guess 1 got him all right. Dead birds tell 110 tales.” There were several persons who claim to llave heard the sounds of the shooting but as far as can be learned there were no eye, witnesses to the affair. Moress states that he was about 40 yards distant when he reached the house, no one but Irish Tommy was in sight and that nothing was said of the happenings until the next morning.; The man Brown who owns the I house where the quarrel occurred,| declares that he was 100 yards away, that he heard the shot but also saw nothing.tMorris Moress was also bound over to the federal court and along with Irish Tommy was brought to Aberdeen and placed in jail. He is being held as a witness in the murder case and also for introducing liquor 011 the reservation. His bonds are set at $7,500. The preliminary hearing in both cases was held lefore Thomas 1*. Nelson, United States commissioner at Dupree last Thursday night. Both men will be tried in Aberdeen at the November term of court.
